Boxed warning

Aripiprazole’s label carries two boxed warnings. Elderly patients with dementia-related psychosis who are treated with antipsychotic drugs are at an increased risk of death, and aripiprazole is not approved for the treatment of patients with dementia-related psychosis. The label also carries the antidepressant-class boxed warning: it increases the risk of suicidal thoughts and behaviour in children, adolescents and young adults, so patients of all ages who start this therapy need close monitoring for worsening mood and for the emergence of suicidal thoughts and behaviour.
