Medicines for an overactive bladder

Ditropan, Vesicare, Detrol and Sanctura XR contain oxybutynin, solifenacin, tolterodine and trospium for an overactive bladder and, in some cases, urinary incontinence. Myrbetriq contains mirabegron, working differently as a beta-3 agonist rather than an antimuscarinic. NIDDK groups these together in Treatments for Bladder Control Problems (Urinary Incontinence).

Medicines for retention and an enlarged prostate

Urecholine contains bethanechol for urinary retention; NIDDK covers retention treatment in Treatment of Urinary Retention. Doxazosin Tablets and Uroxatral contain the alpha blockers doxazosin and alfuzosin, used where an enlarged prostate narrows urine flow.

Medicines for nocturia and bladder pain

Nocdurna is a nasal spray rather than a tablet and contains desmopressin for nocturia and bedwetting. Elmiron contains pentosan polysulfate for interstitial cystitis pain, Urispas contains flavoxate for bladder spasm and painful urination, and Pyridium contains phenazopyridine for urinary tract pain and burning.

Medicines for bladder and urinary tract infections

Nitrofurantoin Tablets and Baycip contain nitrofurantoin and ciprofloxacin for urinary tract infections. Azee, Ilosone, Tetracin and Vibramycin are broader antibiotics covering chlamydia or urethritis, which cause similar symptoms.
