Medicines for asthma and COPD
Ventolin and Asthalin contain salbutamol, and Levolin Inhaler contains levosalbutamol, short-acting bronchodilators used when breathing suddenly tightens. Atrovent contains ipratropium and Tiova Rotacap contains tiotropium, both used for COPD. Budecort and Flovent are inhaled steroids taken regularly for airway inflammation, while Advair, Foracort and Dulera each pair a steroid with a long-acting bronchodilator in one inhaler.
Medicines for allergic rhinitis and cough
Nasonex and Beclometasone Nasal Spray are corticosteroid sprays for allergic rhinitis; Dymista adds azelastine to fluticasone propionate in one spray, while Astelin contains azelastine alone. Singulair contains montelukast and Ketasma contains ketotifen, both used for asthma as well as allergic conditions. Bromhexine Tablets and Bro-Zedex Syrup loosen a productive cough, and Tessalon contains benzonatate for cough alone.
Antibiotics for chest and airway infections
Cenmox contains amoxicillin and Azee DT contains azithromycin, both used for respiratory infections and bacterial sinusitis. Baycip contains ciprofloxacin for chronic bronchitis flare-ups, and Ilosone contains erythromycin for bacterial infections including pertussis. Myambutol contains ethambutol and treats tuberculosis, a different kind of respiratory infection from sinusitis or bronchitis.
