- Thyroid function tests commonly check TSH and T4, with T3 or thyroid antibody tests used in some cases.
- Levothyroxine is the first-line treatment NICE recommends for an underactive thyroid, and antithyroid tablets form part of overactive thyroid management.
- Synthroid is the brand name recognised in the UAE for levothyroxine tablets in this range.
Levothyroxine, carbimazole and thiamazole tablets
Synthroid and Levothroid are Levothyroxine tablets listed for Hypothyroidism and thyroid-stimulating hormone suppression, replacing the hormone an underactive thyroid does not make enough of. Neomercazole contains Carbimazole and Tapazole contains Thiamazole, both listed for hyperthyroidism and working by reducing how much hormone an overactive thyroid produces. Cytomel contains liothyronine and is listed for hypothyroidism and myxoedema coma. All five medicines in this range come as oral tablets, across a number of strengths.
