Antihistamine tablets for hay fever, hives and itching
Clarinex contains desloratadine, Ilaxten contains bilastine and Periactin contains cyproheptadine, all used for allergic rhinitis or urticaria. Ketotifen Tablets and Ketasma both contain ketotifen, used for allergic conjunctivitis and, in Ketotifen Tablets, allergic rhinitis too. Atarax contains hydroxyzine, a more sedating antihistamine used for itching and anxiety rather than hay fever specifically, and Phenergan contains promethazine, used for allergic conditions alongside motion sickness and nausea.
Nasal sprays and eye drops
Flonase Nasal Spray contains fluticasone propionate, Rhinocort contains budesonide and Beclometasone Nasal Spray contains beclometasone dipropionate, corticosteroid sprays for allergic rhinitis. Astelin contains azelastine and Dymista combines azelastine with fluticasone propionate in a single spray. Patanol Eye and Bepreve are eye drops for allergic conjunctivitis, containing olopatadine and bepotastine respectively, while Fml Forte contains fluorometholone for ocular inflammation more generally. Montair contains montelukast, a tablet used for allergic rhinitis as well as asthma.
Corticosteroid tablets used for allergic reactions
Decadron contains dexamethasone, Orapred and Prednisolone Tablets contain prednisolone, Deltasone contains prednisone, and Aristocort and Triamcinolone Tablets contain triamcinolone. Each is used for allergic reactions or allergic states, but also for wider inflammatory, autoimmune or asthma-related conditions, so allergy is one part of a broader role rather than the defining use.
Not used for allergy
Temovate and Synalar are corticosteroid creams for psoriasis and other inflammatory skin disease. Seroflo, Clenbuterol Tablets and Quibron-t treat asthma, bronchospasm or chronic bronchitis, and Calcort contains deflazacort, used for Duchenne muscular dystrophy and other inflammatory diseases.
