Key points

  • Prescription eye drops are the usual medicine treatment for glaucoma.
  • Some drops lower fluid production inside the eye while others help it drain away, and a few bottles combine both actions.
  • Regular monitoring matters because glaucoma treatment aims to slow optic nerve damage and protect remaining vision, not reverse loss that has already happened.

Glaucoma drops, infection treatments and other eye medicines

Glaucoma eye drops in this collection fall into a few ingredient groups. Xalatan, Bimat and Travatan are the prostaglandin-related drops, using latanoprost, bimatoprost or travoprost. Alphagan contains brimonidine and Trusopt contains Dorzolamide on its own, while Cosopt and Combigan combine two active ingredients, including Timolol, in a single bottle for Ocular Hypertension as well as glaucoma. Diamox stands apart from the drops: it is a tablet, also used outside eye care for altitude sickness and swelling.

Toba, Vigamox, Ciloxan and Besivance are attached to bacterial eye infections, and Tobradex pairs an antibiotic with a corticosteroid. Lotemax and Acular are used for inflammation, and Patanol Eye and Bepreve sit in the allergic conjunctivitis group.

Cyclogyl and Mydriacyl are linked to pupil dilation and short-term loss of near focus, known clinically as mydriasis and cycloplegia. Opticare Ointment is used for dry eye, and Latisse uses Bimatoprost for eyelash growth rather than for glaucoma. Norwayz, an antioxidant tablet, is attached through Leber’s hereditary optic neuropathy, a separate inherited condition.
