Dolutegravir
Dolutegravir (Tivicay) is an integrase inhibitor used with other HIV medicines to reduce the amount of virus in the blood. This listing includes Tivicay and Viropil tablets for HIV-1 infection.
Key points
- Tivicay contains dolutegravir as its only active ingredient.
- Viropil combines dolutegravir with lamivudine and tenofovir disoproxil in one tablet.
- Products containing aluminium, magnesium, calcium or iron can affect when dolutegravir should be taken.
How dolutegravir works
Dolutegravir blocks HIV integrase, an enzyme HIV needs to make more copies of itself. Tivicay and Viropil are listed in HIV Management, but Viropil contains two additional HIV medicines alongside dolutegravir.
