Patient summary
Ribociclib tablets for breast cancer. It blocks the signals that tell cancer cells to divide, slowing their spread.
Mechanism of action
Kisqali contains ribociclib, a medicine that belongs to a group called cyclin-dependent kinase 4 and 6 inhibitors. In breast cancer cells, certain proteins called cyclin-dependent kinases 4 and 6 help the cells grow and divide. Ribociclib blocks these proteins, which slows down or stops the cancer cells from multiplying. It is used in combination with hormone therapy medicines called aromatase inhibitors or fulvestrant, which work in a different way to starve the cancer cells of the hormones they need to grow.
