Patient summary
Erlotinib tablets for non-small cell lung and pancreatic cancer. It targets a protein that helps these cancers grow.
Mechanism of action
Tarceva contains erlotinib, a medicine that targets a protein called epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) found on the surface of some cancer cells. By blocking EGFR, Tarceva prevents cancer cells from receiving the signals they need to grow and spread. It is used to treat certain types of non-small cell lung cancer and, in combination with another medicine called gemcitabine, to treat metastatic pancreatic cancer.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Pregnancy: Should not be used during pregnancy unless clearly necessary. Women of childbearing potential must use effective contraception during treatment and for at least 2 weeks after the last dose. Breastfeeding: Should be discontinued during treatment.
